Flowing into Gander Bay on Newfoundland's northeast coast is the 37 mile Mighty Gander River. Since 1991 the river's annual run of wild Atlantic salmon has increased steadily from just around 8,000 to nearly 27,000 fish; one of the most remarkable wild stock recoveries of the 20th century.
